Trauma

Life is traumatic and no one escaped without some form harm and ‘wounding’. However, sometimes we get stuck in experiences of our past that prevent us from living the life we want to live in the here and now. If there are experiences from your past that have left you with unfinished business and are holding you back, getting the right help from an empathetic psychologist can be life changing.

Parenting

As a parent of four boys, two daughters-in-law (so far), and the privilege of two grandchildren, I appreciate parents’ struggles in bringing up their children. As a qualified and registered educational psychologist, I am very aware of what children are struggling with and how, as parents, we need to gain a deeper understanding to provide them with the help they need from us.

Couples Therapy

This includes marriage therapy for all couples, as well as sex therapy within the couple hood or individual.

Individual therapy

I offer counselling for both adults, teens, and children.

Relationships

The quality of your relationship determines the quality of your life. Relationships are the essence of life. Whether you want to work on your relationship with yourself, have some unfinished business from past relationships, are struggling with current relationships, or are fearful of future relationships, relationship counselling works to develop effective interpersonal strategies within and in between.

Depression

Understanding the mind field of depression can lead to a better way of coping with the despair, feeling of unworthiness and low mood. Healing is possible in connectedness to others, the sharing of emotional intimacy and experience of empathy, and the quality of the between.

Anxiety

Anxiety is what happens when our brains signal that something bad is going to happen. This is supposed to be a protective function, but it becomes problematic when our brain continuously sounds a false alarm. In anxiety therapy, we work to rewire your neural pathways and deactivate some of those triggers.

Children’s counselling

Issues related to neurodiversity, including conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), are central to my role as a registered Educational Psychologist. I provide a neurodiversity service tailored to support children with these conditions, as well as those with learning difficulties.

My approach involves accommodating the unique needs of individuals with conditions like ASD and ADHD, helping them gain an understanding of how their brains function, and developing strategies that enable them to use their strengths effectively.

Play serves as the primary language for children, and I specialise in using play to assess and address emotional and social difficulties. Through play therapy, I create a secure and expressive environment where children can explore and effectively navigate their emotions and social challenges.

Adolescent counselling

During adolescence, several factors come into play that can significantly impact emotions and mental well-being among young people. These include hormonal changes, academic pressures, and the influence of social media, all contributing to challenges such as low moods, anxiety, diminished self-confidence, and school avoidance. Given that these issues affect adolescents differently than adults, it necessitates a specialised approach in child psychology.

I provide support for a range of challenges that young people may face during this crucial phase, including:

Low self-esteem and confidence: Helping adolescents build self-assurance and develop a positive self-image.

Anxiety: Addressing and managing anxiety-related issues, providing tools to cope effectively.

Low mood: Assisting adolescents in navigating and understanding their emotions, fostering emotional well-being.

School attendance difficulties: Identifying and addressing the root causes of school avoidance, working toward regular attendance.

Phobias & fears: Offering strategies to manage and overcome specific fears and phobias.

My goal is to offer specialised assistance that addresses the unique challenges faced by young people during adolescence, promoting their mental and emotional well-being while fostering their individual strengths.
